Sources & Resources

Where does Sunny get the data? 📈

Daily Sunwatch uses scientific and government resources to follow the Sun, space weather, the Moon, and terrestrial weather. This page highlights the primary resources that support Sunny’s observations.

Each title links to an official resource.

Data, imagery, forecasts, and model guidance remain the work of their respective providers.

Scientific Sources

Observations, models & forecasts

The primary scientific resources that help Sunny keep an eye on things.

NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center ↗

Operational U.S. space-weather observations, forecasts, alerts, and imagery.

NOAA SWPC is one of Daily Sunwatch's primary operational sources, providing much of the real-time context behind Sunny's solar, solar-wind, geomagnetic, aurora, and coronagraph observations.

Solar activity Space weather Geomagnetic conditions Coronagraph imagery

NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory ↗

Near-continuous, multi-wavelength observations of the Sun.

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory provides high-resolution solar imagery used throughout Daily Sunwatch for routine observations, flare context, multi-wavelength views, and visual analysis.

Solar imagery Multi-wavelength views Flare context

NASA CCMC / DONKI ↗

NASA's space-weather event database and notification resource.

DONKI provides event information and scientific context for activity such as solar flares and coronal mass ejections, helping Sunny connect observations to reported space-weather events.

Solar flares CMEs Event context

WSA–ENLIL ↗

Physics-based modeling of the solar wind and CME propagation through the inner heliosphere.

Daily Sunwatch uses WSA–ENLIL model guidance for additional context when evaluating how reported CME events may propagate through interplanetary space and toward Earth.

CME modeling Propagation Earth-impact context
Model guidance is presented as guidance. Sunny does not independently calculate CME impact.

NASA/JPL Horizons ↗

High-precision solar system ephemerides and astronomical position data.

NASA/JPL Horizons provides astronomical position data used by Moony Moonwatch to determine the Moon's current constellation, based on its position among the official astronomical constellation boundaries.

National Weather Service ↗

Official U.S. terrestrial weather forecasts and observations.

The National Weather Service provides terrestrial weather information for Daily Sunwatch's occasional East Coast weather observations.

Visual Analysis

Sunny Vision

An optional supporting layer for selected imagery, kept separate from Sunny's official scientific data sources.

Sunny Vision

Optional AI-assisted visual analysis for selected solar imagery.

Sunny Vision helps Daily Sunwatch examine selected imagery for potentially notable visible features and add short observational context when appropriate. It is supplementary rather than authoritative, and official scientific observations and model guidance remain separate.

Image interpretation Supplementary context Conservative analysis
Sunny Vision uses OpenAI technology. It is not used as a replacement for official NOAA, NASA, USNO, or NWS data and guidance.

Daily Sunwatch is an independent project and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by NOAA, NASA, the U.S. Naval Observatory, the National Weather Service, or OpenAI.
